B'Haram has been defeated, never more to rise again - Buratai

- Boko Haram embattled leader Abubakar Shekau has threatened to attack Buhari
- But Lt Gen Tukur Buratai says the group has been defeated
- The Chief of Army Staff's (COAS) declaration comes on the heels of a threat by Shekau
- Buratai says the jihadists will not be able to regroup and wreak havoc again
Lt Gen Tukur Buratai insisted on Monday, August 8, that the Nigerian Army had defeated Boko Haram terrorist group.

Buratai's operational visit to formations and units in the North East.                                                      The COAS says Boko Haram can never rise again.
The COAS stressed that the army has ousted the sect and stopped it from re-grouping anywhere in the country to cause  havoc.
Buratai spoke in Jos, the Plateau state capital, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty, Da Jacob Buba, in his palace in Jishe, while on a familiarisation tour of military units and formations under the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army.
On the visit to the Gbong Gwom, Buratai said: “Our efforts in the North-East have really paid off. As you can recall, the incessant bombing of market places and different places of worships and high population areas has virtually stopped now.
I can assure you and the people of Plateau State that they will never witness Boko Haram attacks like you witnessed in the past. “The Army has not only succeeded in routing them from their camps in the North-East, we have been able to block these criminal elements from crossing down to these areas or building their camps anywhere in Nigeria.
“I want to particularly commend you on your role as the Gbong Gwom Jos, for all the moral support you gave us through wise counsel. I want to also acknowledge the cooperation of Plateau people.”
Responding to Buratai's assertions, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba, said: “The success of the Nigerian Army over Boko Haram did not come as a surprise because I know that the Army has always distinguished itself.
“That particular history is still playing itself out. Let me, on behalf of Plateau State, thank you and your men, who have been making sacrifices to work towards restoring peace, law and order not just in Plateau State, https://www.naij.com/920214-tension-boko-haram-niger-delta-militants-get-strong-oppositions.html
In a related development, the army chief has said that professionalism and a high sense of discipline among security personnel were critical in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
Buratai who spoke at the pull out of seven retired Generals of the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineers (NASME) Makurdi, said without discipline and professionalism, the core values of the service would be eroded.
Represented by Major General Lincoln Ogunewe, chief of policy and planning, Buratai extolled the qualities and virtues of the retired Generals.
The commander corps of engineers, Major General Edmond Obi, who also praised the retired senior officers for their immense contributions to the growth of the military, noted that the foundation they laid would be built upon by those still in service.
Governor Samuel Ortom, who was represented by his deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu, assured of his government’s support to military formations in the state.
Responding on behalf of the retired Generals, Major General Panebi Ikumoinein said they excelled in service because of the high level of training, discipline and professionalism in the service.
Meanwhile, more threats are coming from Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, who once again threatened to attack President Muhammadu Buhari, military chiefs and other senior officials in a new video recently released by the terrorist group.

Shekau said: "We have not reneged on our professed loyalty in the leadership of Albagdadi. We are still with him. But we will not entertain any middle man to come between us and the Khalifa Albagdadhi until we meet face to face with the Khalifa or get a video or audio message from him, then we will reveal to him core secrets about those they are building their trust on.
"We are also warning you the infidels of the West African countries that in no distant time, you are going to be visited with a calamity from us that will marvel you all for a long time to come. We will shock the world very soon. Watch out for us. Especially, the Cheif of Army staff , General Buratai and the army spokesman, Kukasheka; we are going to show you our strength in Nigeria.
The world should know that we are no longer out to fight Nigeria but our battle is of the entire world. And the battle has just begun. It is going to be a fresh battle for you soldiers of Nigeria. Die you all in your rage.
To you, President Buhari, very soon you will see us inside your home the presidential palace. You will hear from us right in there by the will of God. Abuja will hear from us very soon.
We will demolish infidel and bring down the green white green and replace it with our flag. And under that flag, we shall worship Allah and we shall bring justice to all of you.
