The 2018 Appropriation Bill has passed second reading at the 8th Senate. The Bill has been forwarded to the Committee on Appropriations and its various sub-committees for further consideration and budget defence by the various ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government. Speaking on the passage of the Second Reading of the Budget, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki said: “We know that the timetable is very tight. We will be suspending plenary for us to be able to start the defense of this budget. Committee Chairmen and Members should please ensure that we keep to this timetable. “Let me respond with a general note of warning to all Heads of MDAs to ensure that they strictly respect the letters of invitation and the timetable. EFCC's Laziness Forces Court to Unfreeze Patience Jonathan's Accounts

An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has rescinded its May 30 order which froze 16 accounts belonging to Patience Jonathan. Justice Binta Nyako withdrew the order on Tuesday on the grounds that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which secured the freezing order failed to conduct its investigation into the alleged infractions involving the 16 accounts. The court’s decision followed an application by the counsel to Mrs. Jonathan asking the court to set aside an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC for continued control of the accounts. It was discovered the court had ordered the EFCC to conduct its investigation within 90 days of freezing the accounts in May, but it failed to carry out the said investigation.

Meet the Minister for Happiness and Wellbeing in the United Arab Emirate, Ohood bint Khalfan Roumi,

Apparently this is what the Imo state government is copying. Roumi was appointed the Minister for Happiness and Wellbeing in the UAE in February 2016. The government created the Ministry with the aim of promoting the UAE’s plans, programmes and policies to promote the happiness of the UAE society. In a recent interview in Dubai, Roumi said her Ministry is not what people should laugh about as it is very important and scientific. “This is serious business for the government. What is the purpose of government if it does not work toward the happiness of the people? It’s the duty and role of the government to create the right conditions for people to choose to be happy. Those conditions include creating an environment in which people feel empowered, and providing sound infrastructure, opportunities for a good education, jobs and healthcare, and ensuring that people feel safe and secure.
