2019 presidency: How Sheriff is planning to overthrow Buhari - Makarfi

The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that the party’s national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, is holding the party to ransom, because he wants to use the PDP platform to contest for president in the 2019 general elections.

Makarfi faction made the allegation in reaction to Sheriff’s statement on Monday, March 20, that PDP’s presidential ticket will be zoned to the North, The Punch reports.

The faction said: “Yesterday (Monday), while addressing newsmen, as he continues to illegally occupy our Party Secretariat with the backings of the APC Government, the former Borno State Governor clearly stated that he’s interested in contesting the 2019 Presidential Elections using the platform of our Party, the PDP.

“We said it earlier, but most non Party members as well as some members of the Party who could not see beyond the curtains didn’t believe it, but we were sure that Senator Sheriff was holding the Party to ransom because he wanted to hijack the Party and use it for his selfish interest."

It said Sheriff’s statement was evident that his fight for the soul of the PDP was to achieve a set objective which he has been working towards since January 2016 when he was appointed to complete the tenure of Bamanga Tukur and Adamu Muazu who resigned having led the Party to electoral failure in 2015.

Picking holes in Sheriff’s statement, the Makarfi faction said: "The stories in the newspapers today were clear enough.

“For the records, he was asked if he would contest the 2019 Presidential Election and he responded ‘….I only told you I wouldn’t run for chairman at the convention. The rest we will leave it for God to decide.’ What a clever way to announce his presidential ambition!"

It said Sheriff as the presidential candidate of the PDP will be a real delight for the APC.

The faction stated that the PDP wants to make a serious contention for power in 2019, adding that the party does not want to field a candidate who “is the captain of the second team of the Ruling Party”.

Meanwhile, the governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson has refuted reports that he asked the caretaker chairman of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi to step down.

Governor Dickson, who is the chairman of the PDP's national reconciliation committee described the report as "misleading".

Today, Justice Jude Okeke of the FCT High Court, Maitama ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pay N180 million to Samuel Okutepa being his professional fee. Okeke who delivered judgment in a suit filed by Okutepa against the PDP, said Okutepa deserved to be paid the money for handling the cases for the party.  “The defendant is directed to pay the claimant N180 million being the earned professional fee for defending and prosecuting their cases listed out in the applicant’s statements of claims.’’ The court also ordered PDP to pay N50,000 to Mr Okutepa, a senior advocate of Nigeria, for successfully handling the cases. The judge held that it was not right for the PDP not to pay for the work they knew was well handled by the plaintiff. ''Shutting down 3 pharmaceutical companies will affect our economy and render thousands jobless'' - Concerned Nigerians group

Read the press statement by Concerned Nigerians below... The Shutdown of three major Pharmaceutical Companies, Emzor, Bioraj and Peace Standard Pharmaceuticals by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control over Codein production is another testament that the current administration is clueless and wants more Nigerians out of Job. This hasty decision of shutting down all Production lines of these Pharmaceuticals over alleged production of Codein syrup is one done in bad faith. We are concerned about thousands of Jobs and revenue that will be lost as a result of this ill-conceived decision to shutdown the three largest pharmaceutical companies in the Country. You would recall that the National Bureau of Statistics had in its report stated that the number of Nigerians that became unemployed rose under  the current administration from 8,036million in 2015 Fourth quarter to 15.998 million in third quarter of 2017. It will be c...
