Meet the Minister for Happiness and Wellbeing in the United Arab Emirate, Ohood bint Khalfan Roumi,

Apparently this is what the Imo state government is copying. Roumi was appointed the Minister for Happiness and Wellbeing in the UAE in February 2016.

The government created the Ministry with the aim of promoting the UAE’s plans, programmes and policies to promote the happiness of the UAE society.

In a recent interview in Dubai, Roumi said her Ministry is not what people should laugh about as it is very important and scientific.

“This is serious business for the government. What is the purpose of government if it does not work toward the happiness of the people? It’s the duty and role of the government to create the right conditions for people to choose to be happy. Those conditions include creating an environment in which people feel empowered, and providing sound infrastructure, opportunities for a good education, jobs and healthcare, and ensuring that people feel safe and secure. We have no intention as a government to impose happiness, or mandate it, or force it. We’re just doing the right thing for our people ... so they can have a better life.”

Continuing, Roumi said 'Some people may laugh at the idea of nurturing happiness, thinking it is silly and fluffy. I assure you, it’s a science. It touches on medicine, health, social sciences. We’re trying to bring it from a broad framework into a daily practice in our society [and] in our government.”
Amongst the strangest requests she says she gets include 'My parents won’t accept my marriage. Can you help convince them?', 'I got a traffic ticket. Can you fix it?' or sometimes it’s just a humble appeal: Please make us happy'
On her reply to the Lady that asked her to convince her parents to accept her marriage, Roumi said
'“I told her, ‘You need to convince them. This is your life. I’m sorry, I would love to help, but this is not part of my scope.”

50 Inmates of Ikoyi prison to write 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

Idris Ibikunle, the Principal of Ikoyi Prisons School says that at least 50 prison inmates will sit for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME. He said the school has prepared the inmates well for the examination as officials of the facility have stepped up efforts in ensuring an excellent performance. “Right now, we are preparing about 50 of the inmates for the next UTME and by what I see, they are very determined to excel. We are yet to enroll them for the examination proper; we want to give a little more room for others interested so we can do the enrolment once. A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in Chachoengsao's Phanom Sarakham district, Thailand for allegedly selling her five-year-old daughter for sex in exchange for payments of Bt200 to Bt300 each time, provincial police deputy chief Pol Colonel Kriengkrai Boonson told the press on Monday. The woman and the 52-year-old unnamed customer were arrested and the girl rescued on Sunday evening in an isolated location in Tambon Nong Yao. Four children dead and several people injured as train collides with a school bus in France

At least four children have died and several others were seriously injured when their school coach was 'cut in half' after colliding with a train in the south of France today. The horrific accident happened close to the town of Perpignan when the vehicle 'was caught between barriers' shortly after 4pm. A TER commuter train travelling at around 50mph ploughed into the bus, causing carnage among the party from a high school in nearby Millas. A witness who was on the train, named as Barbara, said "it was a very violent crash - it seemed as if the train would derail". Casualties are being rushed to hospital in Perpignan. Police and emergency medics are at the scene. Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne called the crash a "terrible accident" and said on Twitter that she was going to the scene, about 850km (530 miles) south of Paris.

NDLEA in Jigawa state nabs six with 1000kg of drugs

The Jigawa State Commander of the NDLEA, Josephine Obi has disclosed that the agency arrested six suspects in the state and recovered 1000kg of drugs between December 9 and 11. Obi said that two suspects were arrested with cannabis while four others were nabbed with over 900 grams of Tramadol tablets. All the suspects have been charged to court.
