#WomenWithDrive enjoy a night out with Taxify in honour of International Women’s Day

At the Taxify #WomenWithDrive event, the message was clear. Empower a woman, and you can build a society.

Riders and drivers gathered at The Backyard Lagos for an evening of networking and fun on Sunday, the 18th of March courtesy Taxify and these were the words spoken by Taxify’s Brand Manager, Terver Bendega:
“This women’s month we decided to pay tribute to all the women across Nigeria who have shown extraordinary drive. There is no harder working woman as the Nigerian woman. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we asked Nigerians to nominate inspiring women who have shown drive in various fields for a chance to win a kickstarter package. Within this package is N100,000 cash, N50,000 in Taxify credit and access to a network of women across various fields.”
“At Taxify, we believe in empowering women to become small business owners and equipping them with the network and finances they need to scale these businesses. We also want to show our appreciation to the amazing women partner drivers, working on the Taxify platform, who go out of their way every day to move thousands of people across their cities whilst providing for their families.“

The inspirational event was attended by women driver-partners, celebrity influencers, media and members of the Taxify team. Guests listened to a passionate speech by ex-Big Brother Nigeria housemate, actress and music artist, Uriel Oputa. Broadcaster Adenike Oyetunde also spoke about the value of Women Entrepreneurs in the press for progress.

Driver-partners and guests engaged in speed networking where they were asked to share what they were driven by, including their passions, dreams, and goals. The event ended with a presentation of cheques to 5 winners of the Taxify kickstarter package. Winners were young women with businesses ranging from consulting to confectionary, fashion design and art. Top female driver-partners were also rewarded with cash prizes.

With Taxify, women can drive whenever they can or whenever they want. Driver-partners can set their own schedules while maintaining a steady, independent source of income. Taxify has created work opportunities for hundreds of women since launching in Nigeria and is looking into creating thousands more in the next few years.

The app which operates in over 35 cities across Europe and Africa is available for download on the Apple IOS store and the Google Play store.

Emzor reacts to closure of production site by NAFDAC

Emzor Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited has reacted to the closure of its production site by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC. According to the pharmaceutical company, NAFDAC has only temporarily sealed one of Emzor’s production sites, the liquid line. The rest of Emzor is still operating as normal. In a statement released today by the Emzor, it said NAFDAC sealed its production site 5 days after carrying out an inspection on the site. Emzor said NAFDAC raised no issues at the time of the inspection, only for them to return later to close the site without explanation. Emzor Nigerian, however, said it will continue to make good quality affordable medicines for the Nigerian public and their products are still available to buy. Court orders PDP to pay N180 million to a lawyer for successfully handling their cases

Today, Justice Jude Okeke of the FCT High Court, Maitama ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pay N180 million to Samuel Okutepa being his professional fee. Okeke who delivered judgment in a suit filed by Okutepa against the PDP, said Okutepa deserved to be paid the money for handling the cases for the party. “The defendant is directed to pay the claimant N180 million being the earned professional fee for defending and prosecuting their cases listed out in the applicant’s statements of claims.’’ The court also ordered PDP to pay N50,000 to Mr Okutepa, a senior advocate of Nigeria, for successfully handling the cases. The judge held that it was not right for the PDP not to pay for the work they knew was well handled by the plaintiff.
