The Switzerland government says it has returned all the money kept in the country by late military disctator, Gen. Sani Abacha, with $1.5 million interest. The Assistant Director-General and Head, Global Cooperation Department, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation,  Amb. Pio Wennubst , disclosed this in an interview with NAN in New York. According to Wennubst, the Abacha loot was originally $321 million but after calculations with interest added, $322.51 million (N116.11 billion) was sent to the Federal Government in December 2017. The Federal Government last week announced it had received $322.51 million Abacha loot from the Swiss government. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, through her Special Adviser, Media and Communications, Oluyinka Akintunde, confirmed the receipt of money from the Switzerland government. Diaspora Nigerians wired $22 billion home in 2017, an African record and the fifth largest remittance by immigrants, according to the World Bank. Egypt received $20 billion from its citizens abroad, according to figures published by the bank today. The World Bank said payments  from immigrants back to their home countries rebounded to reach a new record in 2017 but the costs of transferring funds also increased. The stronger-than-expected recovery in remittances payments that are key to supporting the economies of many poor countries was driven by growth in Europe, Russia and the United States, the World Bank said in a report. The bank estimates that officially recorded remittances to low- and middle-income countries reached $466 billion in 2017, an increase of 8.5 percent over $429 billion in 2016. Early this morning, embattled Senator Dino Melaye was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja while heading to Morocco for an official assignment. Confirming his arrest to NAN, spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Sunday James, said the airport authorities acted based on instructions. James however did not reveal who issued the instruction for the arrest. The police recently declared Melaye wanted after he was accused of supplying arms to some murder suspects, who alleged they were being sponsored by him. Dino has since denied the allegation.

Today, a group of Biafra agitators protested at Pall Mall Street, Westminster just a few metres from Buckingham Palace, London where Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari met with the Queen of England and other Heads of state at the Commonwealth head of governments.
