A two-year-old girl, Gbonjubola Williams, has been allegedly shot by police operatives from the Lagos state, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

A stray bullet grazed the little girl’s chest and shoulder when the policemen raided the community to capture suspected drug peddlers around 5:00pm on Friday, March 3.

It was gathered that the girl was with her mother a few meters away from the scene of the raid when the stray bullet hit her.

While speaking with The Punch, the girl’s mother, Omowunmi Williams, said her daughter was treated at a clinic in the area after the incident.

She said: “My daughter and I were sitting in front of our residence that evening when the policemen chased some boys to our street. When they could not arrest any of them, they arrested my brother (Popoola) and other people and took them inside the vehicle they brought.”

“The bullet hit my daughter slightly. If we were not some distance away, the injury would be serious.”
According to The Punch, the Lagos state police public relations officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, promised to address the public after speaking to SARS officers.

Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday July 29 approved the postings and appointments of 334 officers of the Nigerian Army with various effective dates.
